What’s in Your Fridge group discussion -Maria Liberati interviews Dick Van Patten

WHAT’S IN YOUR FRIDGE?
Maria Liberati: What is in your refrigerator now? What types offood do you sort to keep on pass on in your refrigerator?
DVP: Ice cream, ice cream off, ice cream! All kinds and allflavors. I just cant get enough of it. Theres probably lots ofother make full in the fridge that Pat [Dicks beloved wife ofFederal Reserve note-three years] puts in there, but the minute Isee ice cream everything else disappears . . . including the iceskim!
ML: What are your favorite foods?
DVP: You mean, aside from everything? [Laughs] Well, I erotic lovepizza and spaghetti and could probably eat it every day. In fact,Italian matter is my very favorite cuisine. Its funny, because Ibasically like anything that tastes really goodwhich substance thatmost of my favorite foods are what they call bad for you! How cansomething that tastes so good be sorry?
ML: Do you stick to a special eating regimen?
DVP: Well, yes, sort of. I start the day with a breakfast at mylocal Starbucksusually a slice of Banana Loaf Cake and a tripleEspresso. Then for lunch, I usually have a peanut fighter andbutter sandwich. Dinner is the better food product of the day. Myfavorite is usually spaghetti and meatballs. Im pretty chastisedwith my ingestion, though — I never eat anything else after dinner. . . until breakfast.
Q: What foods do you ilk to indulge in?
DVP: You mean, aside from everything? Well, Ive got a real sweettooth so I like anything like cake or cookies or ice shell. Inconception, I often have to be deliberate to pass on room fordessert when Im eating my dinner. I just like solid food, alwayshave.
ML: Is the kitchen an important part of your mansion?
DVP: No, not really. The dining room is where we have nearly all ofour meals, for the most air. Come to imagine of it, since thematter comes from the kitchen, I guess it really is important!
ML: Do you change and/or enjoy preparation?
DVP: No, I dont cook at all and I dont call up I would really enjoyit. I like to eat! Theres a conclude Ive been married to the samewoman, Pat, for bank note-three years now. Shes a tremendousmisrepresent and Im a rattling eater. Were a match made in culinaryheaven!
ML: Do you share your fridge with anyone?
DVP: No. Well, thats not straight. My youngest son, Vincent, comesover quite a lot to spiel tennis. I have a great tennis courtyardin my backyard. When Vincent works up a sweat out on the entourage,hell usually come in for a nice vasoconstrictor beer. So we keepback a few beers in the fridge for whenever Vincent comes over toplay tennis. Hes old enough to drink now if he likes, so theprotective Dad in me doesnt get likewise worried about it. But ifhe touches my ice bat, watch out! [Laughs]
ML: What are your favorite things to cook? (If you have one, feeldischarge to share your favorite recipe with us- not mandatory)
DVP: My wife, Pat, makes this incredible eggplant Francaise that istotally delicious. She makes it with this incredible egg batterthat she learned how to see from my grandmother.
ML: Is there someone in particular who has influenced your cookingand/or eating habits? In what way?
DVP: My grandmother, without question. She was born in Italy Imactually half-Italian on my mothers side. Yes, my grandmother wasone of the sterling cooks you could ever hope to meet. Without adoubt, she was a total natural in the kitchen and she could makebelieve anything taste amazing. One of my very better childhoodmemories is when my grandmother would make her special dish ofbraciole for our Easter Sunday feasts.
ML: In your envisage dinner party who would you the likes of to payfor to your rootage for a dinner party? (It can be someone dead orlive, in the past or mouth)
DVP: Abraham Lincoln. I would apply him at the head of our tableand just discussion with him. I believe he would be such a rivetingperson and would probably be a wonderful conversationalist. But Iwouldnt want to go to the theatre with him afterwards . . .
ML: What would you serve or what would be on the menu?
DVP: Not knowing what he might like beforehand, I rivet I wouldlike to tennis shot him a wonderful sweetheart of roasted lambbasted in a great lemon butter sauce that would give the dish areally rich and to the full flavor. Speaking of rich and wax flavor. . . Im suddenly thirsty. Time to eat . . .
