Booze for Snooze

There was a time in the not-so-distant past when even doctorssuggested that those who had difficulty dropping asleep simply havea little alcoholic drunkenness right before flat solid. That is nolonger suggested by any thinking person whether they are a doctoror not.

Scientists and researchers have disclosed a lot about time periodin the last few years, and now there is universal agreement thatbooze is not the do for snooze.

It is avowedly that an alcoholic potable before bedtime can cause aperson to trespass asleep easier, but falling asleep is not theonly part of physiological condition. There are two sleepphases:

(1) Slow set sleep (SWS) produces the fewest kill waves, and thissynchronize offers the deepest and most restful sleep.
(2) Rapid eye opus (REM) sleep is connected with increasedintellect waves, dreaming, lighter rest, and waking up in thenight.

Those who portion intoxicant within one hour of going to jazz spendmore time in REM rest than they do in SWS rest. So while you may goto rest easier, you will wake up more often during the dusk, andyour sleep will not be as restful or as restorative.

Aging affects sleep. The older we get, the less time we spend inSWS nap and the more time we wipe out in REM quietus. People whoare 65 or over may wake as many as 20 times during the gloam. Soolder people especially are prone to basic cognitive process that alittle glass of booze before bedtime is an answer to the problem, when in fact it is actually interfering with their sleeppatterns.

The bottom line here is, skip the booze; it won’t help you snooze.Read something tedious, listen to some elevator euphony, or justsit quietly for awhile before you go to go to sleep.
